Developing Effective Organisation

When it comes to developing an effective organisation, deciding what you need to do is often the easy bit. Making it happen can be a lot more demanding.
You may find our thoughts on “Planning the Process of Change” of interest, and if you are embarking on a large project you might want to consider a more formal project management approach. Our article “Change Management Projects using Prince2” may offer some insight as to how this can be done.
Once all the effort has gone into developing an effective organisation, the worst thing that can happen is that attention shifts and the hard won gains gradually evaporate. Making sure that improvement is sustained, and that your organisation can achieve continuous improvement is worthy of attention. Our article on the “Continuous Improvement Principle” may be of help.

Developing Effective Organisation: Change Leadership

A critical aspect of getting your employees fully engaged is of course the leadership within your organisation. Leadership skills are the key to the development of motivated, high performance, self managed teams that continually seek to make their part of the organisation more effective. To consider more about the skills required you can read “Developing Leadership Skills for Organisational Change” which includes a free self-assessment questionnaire to allow you to assess how your own leadership skills measure up to change leadership. Why not try it now? You can go further and explore the required behaviours in “Leadership Behaviours that Enhance Change Leadership”.

Developing Effective Organisation: Improvement Processes and Tools

We recommend the use of a set of three interlinking improvement processes. The first, the “Quality Delivery Process” helps staff to identify the key customers for their work streams, determine what those customers require, and determine whether or not they are meeting those requirements. Having identified the key issues to work on, the second process “Structured Problem Solving” guides towards the best solutions. These two processes sit under the umbrella of the third process; “Continuous Improvement”. Along with these processes come a number of “tools” which staff will need to learn to use to be able to operate the processes effectively. These processes and tools can be branded to fit your environment, and the knowledge transferred to your staff.

Developing Effective Organisation Cycle

The processes and tools introduce best practice; they will facilitate a structured but fast paced and challenging approach to significant cost reductions within the organisation, with the security of having an audit trail so that you can see why you have come to a particular point. However, as with any toolkit, they will add little value unless staff are fully trained to use them, and are motivated to get the best out of them. We believe that if any organisation wants to achieve the goals that it has set for itself it needs to harness the energy and creativity of the staff in the organisation. The value that the method and tools bring will be multiplied many times if the staff are convinced that they will bring value to the organisation and meet their own needs as individuals.
