Support for Newly Unemployed
Finding a new job can be a difficult process at the best of times, add to that the stress of becoming unemployed and the need to find a suitable opportunity as quickly as possible, most people find that they could use a bit of help. That is exactly what JEST Management Services have been doing with over 2000 individuals supported over the last ten years.
"I won the contract. I am rather busy but can confirm that your service was excellent"
Each individual needs and deserves their own personal support, because everyone’s needs are different and everyone reacts differently to the situation that they find themselves in. When delivering support for the newly unemployed, we have learned from experience that there are five areas to concentrate on. Firstly we need to make sure that the individual knows what sort of job they are looking for. Without a clear target, it is simply much harder to make progress. Secondly they need to have a CV that is focused on the needs of the employers that they are targeting. A single version of your CV that gets sent to all opportunities is always likely to be a near miss for the intended target. Thirdly, we need to make sure that individuals find as many good opportunities as possible by helping them understand all of the different routes into the job market. Fourthly, we need to address the inevitable interview. We make sure that the interview preparation is done and that everyone knows exactly what they want to say before they go to each interview. Finally we encourage everyone to monitor what is happening in their job search campaign, to get feedback and to make improvements in how they put themselves forward the next time.
Even when there are fewer jobs around, and consequently there are more people completing for those that do exist, we find that by focusing on these five areas and by doing the right things consistently, people can and do find the jobs that they want.
Feedback from individuals tells its own story:
-
“The advice given was salient and relevant and much appreciated.” Mark
-
“Without the guidance and suggestions you made to improve the layout and content of my C.V. I do not think this opportunity would have arisen.” Dave
-
“It was the first interview I went to after we met up, and three interviews with them later, I have secured the role.” Jane
-
“I have some good news. I start a new job on Mon 6th” Peter
-
“I won the contract. I am rather busy but can confirm that your service was excellent.” Tom
People come to us in different ways. Some worked for organisations that signposted them to our service. Others are referred through specific schemes set up by organisations that are seeking to help their clients such as the Institute of Business Advisers and Jobcentre Plus. Others seek help on their own behalf.
