Our Philosophy
About Change
Does change have to happen?
We feel that this is best summarised by a quotation from W Edwards Demming.
“It is not necessary to change. Survival is not mandatory”
For most practical purposes therefore change will be part of our lives whether at home or at work. For most of us, in whichever situation we are in, our ambition is not only to survive but also to prosper. Thus we have to learn to adapt and change during our lives if we are to be successful.
For individuals, change can mean taking on new skills, adapting existing behaviours, or taking on new roles and challenges.
For organisations, change will mean new strategies, new systems and processes and getting individuals to cope with new ways of doing things.
Change wherever it happens occurs through people. Those people can either embrace and promote the change or act as a barrier to resist the change. For change to happen the people whom it affects most have to want it to happen. Beyond that, for the change to be successful and sustained those people have to be an active part of the change process.
Our business therefore is focused on this single thought. “If organisations are to be successful, then anything that we can do to help their people understand the need for change, understand their changing role and equip them to do things differently is likely to lead to even greater success.”
The role of JEST Management Services
Change, when it is required, demands attention.
It places demands in two senses. Firstly it places a demand on resource. Normal day-to-day activities seldom cease so that change can be implemented, and so people find themselves trying to implement changes and still keep on top of their normal activities. Secondly implementing change may require use of additional skills, which the individuals involved may not possess.
JEST Management Services can respond to both of these issues. Our team are all professionals with significant experience in their own fields. We have all had direct experience of change and managing our own teams of people through change processes. We understand how change affects the individual and because of our interest in developing people in the workplace we are ideally placed to help and advise others who are going through a change process.
We can provide support in two main ways. Firstly by getting involved directly, providing additional resource and skill and thus helping to achieve the required outcomes as quickly and effectively as possible. Secondly, we can act as a coach and mentor to existing staff to ensure that they tackle all the issues with the benefit of our experience and in so doing gain insight into change processes for themselves.
From whichever perspective we operate, we believe in rolling up our sleeves and getting involved. Our objective is to ensure that our experience of managing change makes the process less painful for others.
